James in his catalogue description misread ’Beverley’ for ’Bodley’. William may have had the book bequeathed to him by his father Richard (d. 1491). William’s second wife, Beatrice (d. 1558) added her name on f. 126v. The Lives of Sts Katherine and Margaret in CCCC MS 142 are appropriate for ownership by a woman, p. 29
