Abstract/Contents
- Summary
- CCCC MS 50 contains a number of works in French and Anglo-Norman copied in the late thirteenth century. Among the most significant texts within it are the Roman de Brut of Wace (after 1100-after 1174), the Roman de Guy de Warewic, The Four Daughters of God, Amis et Amiloun and the short prose chronicle Le livere des reis de Britannie. It also contains the unique text of the fabliau, Romanz di un chivaler et sa dame e un clerk. The manuscript was at one time in the Benedictine abbey of St Augustine, Canterbury as indicated by two library inscriptions. It has been identified as item number 1516 in the Catalogue of the abbey's library drawn up in the late fifteenth century.
